Andrea Wood’s work “The Persistence” was selected by the jurors for inclusion into the Collab exhibition at Touchstone Gallery, on display from Aug. 8 through Sept. 1. Working in layered abstraction, Wood uses repurposed house paints, acrylics, and fluid mediums to explore emotional states through movement, pressure, and disruption. Influenced by Pollock’s drip and pour techniques, her process favors physicality and improvisation over control. Rooted in sustainability and community exchange, her work often explores themes of resilience, emergence, and inner resistance, revealing how beauty is forged in disorder and how light finds its way through.

Alumnus Ben Dollar credits his passion for entrepreneurship to his favorite classes at PC—small business with professor emeritus Dr. Norman Scarborough. After successfully selling his first company with his wife while working in medical recruitment, he launched a healthcare recruitment firm in his next venture, The Provider Finder, two years ago. As founder and CEO, Ben focuses on connecting top providers with healthcare organizations to build lasting teams and improve patient care nationwide. His path from PC classrooms to building and scaling multiple ventures reflects adaptability, vision, and the small business principles he first learned at PC, both from his professors as well as his competitiveness on the baseball field with his teammates.

Dr. Frances Cashman, an assistant professor of physics at Presbyterian College, never expected her research on the Large Magellanic Cloud’s circumgalactic medium to make it to prime-time TV—but that’s exactly what happened.

A recent episode of Jeopardy! featured a question inspired by her co-authored article, “The Truncated Circumgalactic Medium of the Large Magellanic Cloud” recently published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters. Contestants were asked about the dwarf galaxy neighboring the Milky Way, a key subject of Dr. Cashman’s study. While the astrophysics might have been complex, the trivia moment was simple:

PC’s influence has reached the stars.
