Susan Gentry, LISW-CP/S

Susan Gentry is a licensed clinical social worker and seasoned mental health professional with nearly three decades of experience in direct care, program development, and higher education leadership.

Currently serving as the Director of Counseling and Health Services at Presbyterian College, she oversees the comprehensive mental and physical health initiatives for the PC student body. Under her leadership, the college has adopted trauma-informed practices, expanded access to counseling, and strengthened suicide prevention efforts campus-wide.

As a dedicated mentor and LISW supervisor, Susan is also passionate about developing the next generation of social workers. She has served as a field instructor for more than 30 interns, created internship pathways that prioritize student access, and regularly provides professional training for resident assistants and campus leaders.

Susan’s clinical background includes private psychotherapy for both civilians and veterans, specializing in trauma, substance use, and family systems. Her earlier roles span outpatient coordination, expert witness testimony, and direct care for vulnerable populations, including children involved with the Department of Social Services and individuals living with schizophrenia.

Recognized for her inclusive leadership, Susan has also directed multicultural initiatives that foster equity and belonging on campus. She is a frequent speaker at conferences, student panels, and faculty development seminars and continues to advocate for holistic, accessible mental health services.

Susan holds bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in social work from the University of South Carolina, where she graduated with honors. She maintains multiple certifications, including as a Certified Anxiety Treatment Professional and MBTI facilitator, and is trained in disaster mental health and mental health first aid.
