Lynn Downie
Associate Director of Career & Professional DevelopmentIn addition to my work at Presbyterian College, I previously taught career advisors from around the globe through the Global Career Development Facilitator training program offered through CCE approved providers. I enjoy volunteer work, having served on the Board of the United Way of Laurens County from June 2018 until June 2024. Also, I actively participate in numerous ministries through Westminster Presbyterian Church, including children’s ministry, music ministry, and a program offering hospitality to exchange and international students at Presbyterian College. Prior to my work at Presbyterian College, I taught English at Greenwood Christian Academy and several other faith-based schools across SC, NC, and VA. Between paid roles in education, I’ve worked in children’s, women’s, and music programming in congregations in these states plus TN. Hobbies include piano, walking, travel, and time with family, especially my husband, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and parents.
Education

Research or Areas of Specialty
I oversee registration for academic internships across all undergraduate disciplines except Education, meeting with students to explore options for their internship – many aren’t aware of the wide variety of ways they can gain meaningful experience, so the earlier someone meets with me, the better! One goal is for each student to have a solid professional resume for their internship application process.
Alongside work on the “nuts and bolts” of internships, I enjoy helping students explore career options, build professional skills, and gain confidence in networking and INTERVIEWING. Many folks don’t realize that interview skills can be developed with practice and strategic preparation. Being able to come alongside students as they grow in these areas is extremely fulfilling.
Each person has intrinsic value, created in the image of God; each one also has talents and strengths. I am grateful for the opportunity to help students discover and grow in their use of these for professional readiness!
